Bass Player Power Outage

Bass Player Power Outage

Yesterday I wanted to host a Las Vegas Bass Players hang via Zoom. I used social media to get my invite out.

Unfortunately, we had a power outage for about 6 hours. I had to cancel the meeting due to no power and my insufficient cell/data coverage. We've had some rain, snow and winds throughout the Las Vegas area, so it's been a bit of a challenge for the utility workers. A first world inconvenience magnified by the pandemic and social isolation.

Anyway, I was bummed to cancel the hang on such short notice (about 30 minutes prior to start time), but I have been grateful to get the feedback and support from my fellow bass player friends. I have had numerous friends asking how we were doing. And my bass playing peers are anxiously awaiting a re-schedule.

Dena and I are just fine and I am touched by our concerned friends. Wow. Thanks!

I've had a real love/hate with social media the past few years. It's often such a self serving format full of bragging B.S. and political disarray. I've both participated in and ignored such rabbit holes. I also tend to find cool stuff to see and do by using social media. It is the most immediate way to find and share things.

I like seeing my friends moving on with their lives through social media during this crisis of a year. However, as I've read before, scrolling is the new smoking.

Yesterday, I further "accepted" that we are all just using social media in our own ways, for our own needs. Some can't get off of it, some might think it is our ultimate demise as human beings... You can leave it and nobody cares. You can be on it all the time and nobody cares.

Anyway you work with it, you need to be self aware of it. To be able to take it and to leave it.

Have a great remainder of the week. On or offline!

Cheers,
