Socially Distanced Music

This past Saturday (12/12/20) I performed some holiday music with some great friends, outside on a porch. We were socially distanced, and cheery as we could be.

After the mini "concert" with friends, I instantly had a bit of a lump in my throat. It was all for fun, but then I wondered - "now what?"

After the concert I spoke with my good friend Megan about the future of our entertainment industry. We both ultimately feel like the industry won't be what it was for a very long time. Even with a vaccine. Businesses have constantly made cuts with musicians for years. It's always cheaper to use  DJs or house music instead of live music. And, technology is making it even more difficult to compete.

With conferences and trade shows being mostly online these days, it is also saving money and providing more access to more people. Recently, I've been trying to be part of the "just show up" crowd these days. But, in all honesty, it's really hard to stay consistent. I'm often burning out from all the screen time. I'm not even close to what school teacher must feel!

If we don't at least pursue the "socially distanced music" than, maybe it's just going to be "distanced music" and that might even be worse. We must try to do the best with what we have.
