I heard a wonderful podcast yesterday on NPR's Hidden Brain. It is an interview with Shankar Vedantam and William Irvine regarding the way people deal with pain and joy.

It is one of the best discussions about stoic philosophy, that I've ever heard. In the podcast, Mr. Irvine is promoting his book "The Stoic Challenge."

In a nutshell, if we can possibly look at life as a gift, and that it can "always be worse," then we might be better off! It sounds simple, but, it's not. It takes work to learn how to live like a stoic and learn to be productively negative for our own benefit.

I will be buying this book very soon!
