Last night I spent some quality time with a very good musician friend of mine who hasn't been working (like most of us) since the f-ing pandemic. It was great to share some adult beverages and our love of music. Some of which happened to be playing throughout the wide open, outdoor and yes...socially distanced bar.
Tony Richards is a wonderful friend, musician and outdoor enthusiast. We even hiked the Mt. Charleston peak together 2 times last fall! He also just happens to play bass and produce the Australian Bee Gees Show.
Much of the overheard music last night was from the 1960's: Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, etc... Wonderfully arranged, timeless, raw, non-pitch corrected, non-quantized and not overly edited music.
Two particular tunes that really stand out to me today are "Layla" (Derek & The Dominos) and "Good Vibrations" (The Beach Boys). Both of these tunes have wonderful sections that are almost like a song within a song. These full versions weren't always so welcomed to radio at first, due to their song length. Most "hit" songs of the 60's were an average of 2:30 to 3:00.

Anyway, these tunes amazed me 30+ years ago and still do today. Just listen with some headphones and enjoy! I'd even suggest you tap your hand to the rhythm and notice the dramatic tempo change each tune has.
Tony's Australian Bee Gees show is slated to come back to the Excaliber soon. Please support the show and check him out here.
Have a nice weekend!
Cheers,
Tyler
